In the same way that a photographer isforced to look at an image through a frame, the painter creates not only the frame, but also the content of that frame. It is the same with gardens. People shut out the outside world with walls and create a new frame (the horizon) in which he or she realizes their dream world. In this sense, gardens are three-dimensional paintings. My garden is a viewing place made of birdseed. The kinds of birds attracted to it can be varied by adaptations to the content ofthe walls.
